Tamara Mack Decorative Pillows

1. What is the best accessory to complete a room?

Pillows! Decorative pillows are the perfect way to bring color, pattern, and texture to a space.

They are also relatively inexpensive, therefore they can easily be swapped out for an instant update when you want to switch up your home without breaking the bank.

2. How do you decide on the color scheme for the room?

First, I generally start by getting to know the client and the colors he or she gravitates towards. I will look for an inspiration piece such as a piece of art, a rug, or even a favorite sweater. Then, I will help build the color palate by using the selected hues for design pieces.

3. The secret to styling a mantel?

The key to styling a mantel is in the variations of sizes and shapes. Grouping three or five items in different sizes and shapes will definitely create visual interest. Don’t feel the need to create symmetry on your mantel!

4. Interior design pet peeve?

I’m not a fan of interior design that clashes with its context. For example, I cringe when I walk into a family home with young children and see fragile settees, sharp edged tables, and delicate accessories. Your home should be beautiful, but your family needs to feel comfortable living in it too!

5. What is one without fail interior design hint that you have learned over your career?

Be yourself! Interior design is subjective, so don’t let trends overpower your intuition. Most of all, it’s important to use interior design in a way that makes you happy.
